How to use this guide: each section below is written as a voice-over script — read it aloud while your screen recorder plays back the matching screenshot, and you have a narrated training video. No video-editing needed on your end beyond that.
Registering as an instructor
Anyone can apply to become an instructor on Mentor.lk. Head to the Instructor Registration page and fill in the form — your name, a username and password, and your email.
“Once you’re through the account details, you’ll tell us how you teach: whether you’re at school level, academic and professional level, or corporate level — you can pick more than one. Then the languages you teach in, the subjects or topics, and if you teach school grades, which curriculum and grades. Finish with a short bio about yourself, and choose a starting plan.”
Submit the form and your application goes to our team for review. You’ll get an email as soon as you’re approved — from that point on you’re a full instructor with your own dashboard.

Your instructor dashboard
Once you’re approved, this is where you’ll spend most of your time. Your dashboard shows your enrolled courses, active courses, and completed courses at a glance, with New Course and New Bundle buttons always within reach at the top.
“Scroll down the left sidebar and you’ll find every instructor tool in one place: My Courses, Announcements, Withdrawals, Quiz Attempts, Google Meet, Assignments, Zoom, Analytics — everything you need to run your teaching business lives here, not scattered across separate apps.”

Building a course
Click New Course and the Course Builder opens in three tabs: Basics, Curriculum, and Additional. You can save a draft at any point and come back later.
What each tab is for
- Basics — title, description, visibility, a schedule toggle, featured image, pricing (free or paid), and categories. This is your course’s storefront information.
- Curriculum — the actual content. Add Topics to organize your course, then under each topic add Lessons, Quizzes, or Assignments. There’s also a Content Bank button for reusing material across courses.
- Additional — “What Will I Learn”, target audience, total duration, materials included, course prerequisites, and file attachments. This is what convinces a student to enrol.

“When you’re happy with all three tabs, hit Publish. Your course immediately appears under My Courses, and students can find and enrol in it right away.”
Booking a live class
Every instructor gets a monthly Zoom quota — split into peak hours, off-peak hours, and Jitsi hours — shown right at the top of the Room Booking page, along with which plan you’re on and when your quota resets.
“If your plan doesn’t include Zoom, you’ll still see a Jitsi Rooms tab — Jitsi is available on every plan, including Free. To book a Zoom class, click a time slot on the calendar. A confirmation box pops up showing the date and time, the duration, and — this is the useful part — a box where you link the class to one of your courses. Confirm the booking, and a room is assigned automatically; there’s nothing to pick.”

Recordings inside your course
If you recorded the session, you don’t have to do anything to publish it. Once the recording finishes processing, it’s automatically added as a new lesson at the bottom of your course’s content — inside a “Class Recordings” topic — so students revisit it the same way they’d revisit any other lesson.
“This only happens for classes you linked to a course when you booked them — that’s why linking the course at booking time matters. You can turn this automatic posting off in your account if you’d rather add recordings manually.”

Cancelling a class
Open My Zoom Rooms to see every upcoming booking, each with a live countdown to the start time. Every booking card has four actions: Start Class, Cancel, Open Join Page, and Copy Student Link.
“Click Cancel and confirm — the class comes off your calendar and the quota hours you’d reserved for it are released back to you immediately, so they’re available for your next booking.”
Creating groups & forums
Groups are how you build a lasting community around your teaching. Create one from the Groups menu, and you’ll go through a short wizard: Details, Settings (public, private, or hidden), Topics, then a step that matters — Forum.
“Tick ‘Yes, I want this group to have a discussion forum’ and every member of your group gets a proper bulletin-board style space to ask questions and talk to each other — not just a comment thread. Finish the wizard with a photo, cover photo, invites, and — as an instructor — you can even add a Courses tab linking your group straight to one of your courses.”
Once it’s live, open the Discussions tab and click New Discussion to post the first thing your students see — a welcome message, your class schedule, anything you’d normally announce in class.

Choosing & buying a plan
The Plans page lines up Free, Starter, Professional, and Enterprise side by side, with your current plan clearly marked. Every tier is broken down the same way — Live Classes, Recording & Storage, and AI Document Converter — so you’re comparing apples to apples.
“Free gets you 10 Jitsi hours a month and nothing else — no Zoom, no recording. Starter adds real Zoom hours and a small recording allowance. Professional and Enterprise scale both up considerably, plus more participants per session and longer advance booking windows. Whatever you’re on, upgrading is one click: hit Upgrade on any higher tier, and you’re taken straight to that plan’s checkout page.”

Topping up extra hours
If you burn through your plan’s monthly hours before the period resets, you don’t have to upgrade your whole plan — the Top-up Packages page lets you buy exactly what you’re short on.
“Peak hours come in 5, 10, or 20-hour packs. There’s also a combined recording-and-storage pack — 10GB of extra storage that comes bundled with 100 recording hours. Every top-up you buy is valid for a full year from the date of purchase, and your top-up balance is used automatically only after your plan’s own monthly quota runs out.”

The AI document converter
Already have slides, PDFs, or notes from teaching offline? The AI Document Converter turns them into a draft course structure instead of you rebuilding everything from scratch in the course builder.
“Upload up to five Word or PDF documents — they get combined into one course. Choose a content style: Summarize condenses your material into clear lessons, while Full reproduction keeps your exact original wording, just organized into lessons. Pick a language, or keep the original. Then choose what to generate: Topics and Lessons at minimum, plus multiple-choice quiz questions and summaries if you want them. Nothing publishes automatically — you review and publish each piece yourself back in Tutor LMS.”
